How many custom user programs can the 3Key hold?

What is the difference between the Genesis Spark and the Mini?

The dimensions for the Spark and the Mini are different; the Spark is smaller and is a direct upgrade for our 3Key controllers
The user interface and screens are different on the Mini & Spark.
The Mini can also use a current sensor, where we are not including that as an option for the Spark
The Mini can use Type K, R & S thermocouples where the Spark works with Type K only
The price is different - this is reflective of some additional parts on the Mini.

Genesis Spark

How can the current temperature of the other zones (zones 1 & 3) be displayed when using the RTC1000 in 3-zone mode?

Press the "1" key to cycle through the temperatures of each zone consecutively. The display will flash the thermocouple number and the zone temperature.

What is the difference between the RTC 1000 controller and the V6CF controller?

Some customers like to use the RTC 1000 controller because of some features it contains which are helpful for glass art, such as an “Edit-on-the-Fly” function and the ability to add time in 5-minute increments. There are also differences in the actual physical dimensions of the 2 controllers, which might be a factor if the situation involves replacing a unit in an already-constructed metal box. The V6CF controller has 4 options for speeds in a conefire program (slow bisque. fast bisque, flow glaze, and fast glaze), whereas an RTC1000 controller has 3 options for speeds in a conefire program (fast, medium and slow).

Why won't the controller start after I press the "START/STOP" key?

If you have a 700 series controller, it may be set to a two-key start. If it is set this way, you must first press "START/STOP", then press "Enter". The kiln will not start unless these two keys are pressed in the correct order. This is a safety option, which can be set in the "Hidden" menu. Please see the technical manual on information on how to change this option.

How do I clear the 'ErrP' from the display?

Press the "1" key. After several seconds the current temperature will be displayed. Several other numbers or 'STOP' may be displayed before the current temperature.

Does Bartlett Instrument manufacture standalone control boxes?

No. We don't currently sell standalone control boxes. To see a list of standalone control box distributors as well as a sample wiring diagram, click here.

What does a rate of "9999" mean?

When 9999 is used as a rate, that indicates a maximum ramp rate (either up or down) is being used.

How do I tell which type of thermocouple I am using with my controller?

There are some standard wire colors used with different types of thermocouples:

Type K thermocouples - red and yellow
Type S thermocouples - red and black
Type J thermocouples - red and white

I can't find my manual for my controller. Can I get a new one from Bartlett Instrument Company?

One option is to download a printable manual from this page on our web site. Another option is to call us and order one to be sent to you. There is a nominal charge for this, however.

During programming of a firing, I typed the wrong number. How do I correct this?

Before pressing "ENTER", enter zero until all zeros are displayed, then enter the correct number. If you have already pressed "ENTER", you must press "ENTER"to progress through to the end of the program then start the program again.

I turned on the controller and 'FAIL' is displayed. What does this mean?

The thermocouple is not connected to the controller or has failed. When connecting the thermocouple, connect the red wire to the connector with a RED dot and connect the yellow wire to the connector with the YELLOW dot. On all thermocouples, the RED wire is always negative; the YELLOW wire in this case is the positive. Also there may be a break in one of the thermocouple lead wires, if so, the thermocouple must be replaced.

How can I find out the final temperature which was reached during a cone firing?

At the end of a cone firing, the current kiln temperature and 'CPLt' will be alternately flashing in the display. Press STOP. Then press Review Program, the final temperature will display. This final temperature will be retained until the next firing or until the controller is reprogrammed.

When starting a firing on the Genesis, what if I enter my start code but don't see the GO button to start the kiln?

If GO does not appear after you have entered the start code, you have typed in the incorrect start code. You can try re-entering the start code or you can change the controllers start code under MENU - CONFIGURATION - START CODE.

My kiln has a different manufacturer's controller on it and I'd like to replace it with a Bartlett. Is it compatible or do I need a special wiring harness?

It's possible that we will be able to build the controller with the appropriate connectors on it so no special wiring harness would be needed. Check with us to find out what we have available.

I see CN05 flashing when I review my program - what does that mean?

The information flashing is CNOS for Cone Offset. If you look at page 16 in the manual, it outlines the each key in the sequence displayed when you review a program.

I am having trouble logging into KilnAid. Please help!

If you are a new KilnAid user, please double check you have confirmed your email. The confirmation email comes from no-reply at bartinst.com. Please check your junk email folder. The confirmation email can take several minutes to get to your inbox.

Can I program from the KilnAid app?

Currently you can not program from the KilnAid app. We do have many features planned for KilnAid. Please consider signing up for our e-newsletter so you can stay up to date with all of the latest news from Bartlett.

Where do I find my serial number on my controller?

When the controller is at Idle press the Menu button. Then select Data Menu then scroll down and select Kiln Info. There you will find the serial number and mac address needed for the KilnAid.

Can you program or stop the kiln from KilnAid?

As of August 2024, you cannot program, start or stop the kiln from the app. We are always working on additional app features so join our e-newsletter stay up to date on newly released features and more!

How many users can be added to my kiln?

The number of users that can monitor the kiln status is unlimited.

Can I get alerts while my kiln is running a firing schedule?

Yes! You can get text or push notification alerts. The alerts will be triggered when the kiln changes status (e.g. Delay Start to Firing or Firing to Error).

KilnAid

Why won't the vent cycle work when I manually try to start it?

If the controller is in a cooling mode (i.e. the setpoint is below the current temperature and the cooling appliances are operating), the vent cycle will start and then shut off again.

Why won't the fans run when the controller goes to NITE mode and the temperature is above the set point temperature?

The controller could be in NITE Lock-out mode. To check the NITE Lock-out setting, press menu until ntLo is displayed. Press ENTER to see if NITE Lock-out is set to on or off. Press any number key to toggle the setting. Press ENTER to save it.

I'm adding natural ventilation to a house with a Bartlett GHK12X2 in it. Can I upgrade the controller to an RWL11X2 without completely replacing it?

Yes. Call us for assistance in changing out the current controller lid for that of an RWL11X2 lid for a small fee.

I can't find my manual for my greenhouse controller. Can I get a new one from Bartlett Instrument Company?

How do I use CIS to text me when I have a low or high temperature alarm in the greenhouse?

Setting up text alerts with CIS is easy. Click "Options" in the top left corner and in the drop down, click on "Preferences". Click on the "Messaging" tab under preferences. At the bottom, enter the sender information, which can be any email address you'd like to use. The sender email can also be the receiving email for the alerts. Once you've entered that information, enter your phone number under "Text Recipient", select your phone carrier from the drop down, and press the "Add" button. Press the "Send Test Message" button in the bottom left corner and you should get a test message sent to the phone number you have entered. If you receive an error, you've either entered the Sender or Text Recipient information incorrectly, or your computer is not connected to the Internet and it is unable to send.

Can a Wind/Rain alarm be connected to a VSmart controller?

No. The Wind/Rain Alarm is not compatible with the VSmart controller.

What is the Headgrower platform? What features does it offer?

Can I use the Headgrower platform if I don't have WiFi to all of my houses?

Yes. We can designate one or more controllers as Hubs OR you can use a standalone Headgrower Hub. Then, the controllers will transmit data to/from the designated Hub(s) via radio.

Can I import settings from one house to another?

Yes - this video shows you how you can export settings from one house and then import those settings to a different house. Watch this for some updates in the future!

What is the floating low alarm?

The floating low alarm will sound at an offset of your current stage heat activation temperature. This provides you with an additional alarm for low temperatures as a warning that your heat isn’t activating or keeping up with your program. This alarm is an additional alarm on top of the fixed, low temperature alarm and is only available via Headgrower. Here’s an example of how to use the floating low alarm:

If your set point is at 65º F
Your Heat 1 offset is 5º (e.g. an activation temperature of 60º F)
Your floating alarm can be set to an offset of 5º. If your temperature gets to 55º, you would receive the Heat 1 Floating Low alarm.

Can I update the clock for all of my site?

Yes - on the Manage Site page, we provide a way for you to update many of the general settings across all controllers on your site. You pick the setting, provide the new value and select which controllers you would like to update.

Can you give me an overview of how to program?

Yes! This video does an overview of the programming screen on Headgrower. You’ll notice a lot of similarities to the ClimateBoss screen; this is on purpose so you can go from the controller to the Headgrower platform seamlessly.

Is there an API for Headgrower so I can retrieve my data?

No, there is no API, but you are able to download data or get reports sent to you. You can review the data logs and graph on the app. From that page, you can download logs. Additionally, there are reports you can configure from the Manage Sites page.

How do I connect my 'Boss controller (TimeBoss, ClimateBoss or WeatherBoss) to Headgrower?

What sensors come included with the WeatherBoss?

Can I close my vents automatically with the WeatherBoss?

The WeatherBoss does not close vents, but it does broadcast an alarm for any ClimateBoss controllers on the same radio channel. The ClimateBoss controllers can be configured to close some or all vents based on the both the wind or rain WeatherBoss alarms. See this video for details on how to program your vents to response to a WeatherBoss alarm.

What is the difference between Wind 1 and Wind 2 alarms?

Functionally, they are the same. We often see only Wind 1 used; however, there are a few good reasons why you might want to use Wind 2:

Shutting some vents or side walls at lower wind speeds. If you have the included sensors, you can still use both wind alarms. You can trigger Wind 1 at a lower speed (for example. 7 mph) and trigger Wind 2 slightly higher (for example, 15 mph). Then any vents that should close at the lower speed can activate for Wind 1 where the vents with more wind tolerance would activate for Wind 2.
Shutting some vents or side walls at wind coming from different directions. If you have the weather direction sensor you can add direction into your weather alarms. With this sensor, Wind 1 and 2 will activate based on the configured activation set point (low or high) for the direction of the wind. For example, Wind 1 could be configured to activate from westerly winds at 10mph and wait to activate for easterly winds until 12mph.

How does the WeatherBoss connect with the ClimateBoss or TimeBoss?

The WeatherBoss uses radios to broadcast weather alarms and other sensor information to other 'Boss controllers. It is not hard wired.

How far can the radio communication broadcast? Should I be worried about interference?

The radio signal broadcasts up to a 1/2 mile. We do not normally see a lot of interference, but if the materials of a building or something else is causing interference we can extend radios up higher to alleviate the problem.

I need to upgrade my rain sensor for my [old] Wind/Rain alarm. Can I buy a new sensor?

If you have a Wind/Rain alarm and an older rain sensors, a new rain sensor requires an upgrade to the WeatherBoss due to a power source change.

What is the activation and drop off speeds? How about the activation and drop off delays?

The activation speed and delay values are used to determine when a wind alarm is active. The activation speed must be reached and maintained for the activation delay time. For example, if the activation speed is set at 15mph and the delay is set at 10 seconds, the wind speed must be at or above 15mph for at least 10 seconds for the alarm to sound. If it only reaches 15mph for 2 seconds and then drops below, the alarm will not sound.

The combination of drop speed and delay determine when an alarm is no longer active. The drop speed is the speed at which the alarm will deactivate. The drop delay is the amount of time the drop speed (or below) must be maintained before the alarm is deactivated. Let's consider the following configuration - a drop speed of 10mph and delay of 1 minute - while building on the example above. If the wind alarm is active and the wind speed dips to 8mph for 30 seconds, the alarm will remain active (because the drop delay condition was not met). If the wind alarm is active and the wind speed dips to 10mph (or below) for 1 minute, the alarm will deactivate.

I'm having trouble with my Genesis 2.0 WiFi connection.

There are a number of things that can affect your connectivity. Please start by updating your firmware - see video. If you are still having a problem after downloading the latest firmware, please look at the WiFi status page and send the details to information at bartinst.com so we can help you troubleshoot.

How do I update my controller's firmware?

My controller was programmed to Cone 6, but it didn't stop at the top temperature?

Our controller has built in programming that if it sees that it is firing slower or faster than the final programmed rate of rise in the cone fire that it will adjust the final cone temperature. If it goes past the top temperature in the cone table, it may be because the kiln was firing slightly faster than programmed.

You manual says I need to do a first fire and to do it according to the manufacturer's specs. What are the specs I need to do for a first fire?

Please contact the manufacturer of the kiln for what first firing specs they recommend. We only manufacturer the kiln controller and the first firing specs change based on kiln.
